ford 6.0 vs cummins fuel economy

i have people telling me they get 22-26 mpg with there 2005-2006 cummins.
i also know guys who get 14-17 mpg.....the ones that say they get 22-26 i believe they are looking at there LIE O METER which is telling them what ther getting but really there are getting 14-17 cus i asked them if they figure it out with there calculater and they have not cus there trip meter will say like 5,000 miles!!! i have gone on a few trips in a cummins that say its gettin 22.3 mpg when we figured it out on the calculater we were actually gettin 14.3!!! wow!!! thats a little bit of a difference! and if the cummins really did get 24 mpg....why would people be driving the trucks that get 12-17 mpg???? i just laugh because they rely on what the truck is telling them on the screen but they never figure it out on the calculator!

Cummins are efficient, especially in CR. If you did a side by side comparison in the same truck with same wheels, gearing, etc. I bet the cummins would get 1-2 mpg more.
