Location of tuner/chip in truck???
Just got my truck back from the dealer for a bad FICM.
Tech posted notes on my service slip- 18 codes stored (no CEL though??) EGR system deleted (duh!) Chip installed in truck by customer He installed a new FICM, reflashed the FICM, TCM, and PCM. Where is the port that a chip would be plugged into? And, I assume from him reflashing all the computers, my chip is not doing anything? I just bought the truck, and the dealer I bought it from told me it was stock. Is there a way to tell from the injector spray pattern on the pistons if the truck was running a tune? I had what looked like a 5 or 6 pedal flower pattern on my pistons when I did the studs. And a small portion of one gasket that showed the start of a gasket failure. |

So, the pattern you mentioned is consistant with hotter (more fuel) combustion , usually the result of a performance tuned PCM. The codes can be there without ever getting a CEL...especially the egr delete. If you don't have a programmer (SCT Tuner), you will probably want to get one now, since your CEL will probably show without a custom tune that compensates for the egr delete and clears the CEL...altough, the DTCs will be there. The chip he is referring to is in fact a tuned PCM/TCM and the signature left behind by it. Unlike to older diesels, the 6.0L is tuned by flash tuning the PCM/TCM via the OBDII DLC....so there really isn't a chip there any longer. Of course I think it is kind of crappy that the selling dealer sold it to you knowong all of this and not explaining it to you...I'd ask why, and tell them you want some form of warranty now that the tech's write-up has revealed this info. At least to extend coverage on your studs and head gaskets...

Ok, so I guess I need an SCT. Just so I can get rid of the EGR code problem. As well as I get my power back! After I got the truck back from the dealer, she definitely has less 'go' behind the pedal. Also, I noticed my boost doesnt go nearly as high. I barely hit 25-27psi now. Before on a good romp, I would see 30 pretty easily.
Dude, if I started a thread about this dealer I got the truck from, you guys would need at least two bags of popcorn to sit and read it all!!!!! They truly do suck major balls. |

Unfortunately, you just described most of the dealerships in my area...
