Thinking of Buying a 05 6.0.. need advice.
I had originally posted this in the general diesel section, then I noticed this 6.0 section. So I'll reask the question here:
I'm thinking of buying a 05 6.0 with about 100k on it. The guy claims its "One of the good ones" and that its had no issues. Are 6.0's basically a lemon or not situation? Is there somewhere I can go to get an Oasis report on it when he provides me with the Vin? I primarily plan on using this vehicle to tow a 7500 pound 5th wheel. I'll put 6k on it a year. 60% of which will be towing. Will the powertrain handle that fine? Sorry for all the Q's. I'm new to Fords. Been a dodge guy most of my life, but finding 3rd gen CTD in my price range without 200k miles on it (and the crappy dodge tranny!) has been mission impossible. Thanks! Keith |

the dealer should be able to get you the oaisis report.
As far as the 48re inthe dodge(auto trans) They were quite good. Lots of 6.0's run well. These forums are great, but 99 percent of the people that visity them have issues, Ford sold thousands and thousands of the 6.0ssome have more issues thn others. BUt the complaints are farless then the people that love them. They just dont talk about it. Only the angry people talk about it. Dont be shocked if you have to do head gaskets at some point though. |

Yeah. That was kind of my worry. The HG failure is pretty common?

ive had issues with my 6.0... but honestly i can say they have all been user caused not so much the truck... the 6.0 with a couple minor aftermarket fixes are very reliable and make very good power... if you read these forums you will be over whelmed with a plethora of knowledge..
On a personal note.. I LOVE my 6.0 even with the few issues i have had. replaced injectors being the only major prob.. however next month i am doing a full egr delete. as for head gaskets.. knock on wood.. mine have held up quite nicely but i dont drive it like i stole it 24/7 either.. but i do run a hot tune the Inovative extreme race tune and they have held it just fine |

Purchased an '05 6.0 about 1 1/2 years ago with 92000 and could not be happier. Trans is bulletproof and the 6.0's will treat you well as long as you take care of it. I got the history from the dealer and it matched the carfax on the warranty items and I can see the guy serviced it as need (at the dealer too, not very common). The key to this engine is the oil changes and fuel filter changes. Thats why Ford send out a bulletin lowerering the change intervals based on usage and idle time. I service mine every 3k - 5k depending on if I have been pulling any loads. keep the oil clean and the fuel filter changed often and you will not be a 6.0 hatter...............
