What to "inspect" on a 2004?
Going to look at a 2004 F-350 with the 6.0 in a few days. What do I need to pay attention to? This truck is 4x4 with 68,000 miles on it. I had a Dodge in there several weeks ago getting some repair work done, and I asked about that 04 Ford. The mechanic told me the engine was bad and they were going to put in a new engine. Talked to the same mechanic today and he said upon further investigation, the EGR cooler was leaking and they fixed that, but he says it runs out well but has now power. They are going to bring it back in and check the turbo. I didnt ask him, but will next time I see him, do you think they would have replaced the head gasket? I have a 2000 F-350 with the 7.3, and I really like it, but the 1997 Dodge cummins I have I would really like to upgrade it for the Ford.

i have a 6.0 04 it's a piece of junk replaced the inter cooler ,turbo ,ball joints and now i'm blowing blue somke out the back. i have 88 on mine DON"T DO IT. stay with the 7.3 international motor. fords 6.0 6.4 6.7 are peices of junk

I am happy with mine
I bought mine and it had 89K on it and it had the hg replaced and turbo from the dealer. I put studs in and deleted the egr and havent had any trouble out of mine. eh I forgot I had the engine harness replaced too. But other than that it has been great! I did the studs and egr as preventative maint. they were not bad.

Read the articles on this page for early 6.0 problems and what to look for. Pay special attention to the injector harness article.

Your credibility goes down when you say they are all junk, especially when the 6.7 isn't even for sale yet. Some have been. good, some have troubles

I got an 04 f-250 with 72,000, so far no issues..

Funny. Many 7.3 PSD people upgrade to the 6.0 intercooler. The turbo and ball joint problems are usually maintenance-related (as in, take care of them, and they will take care of you). If you had said "EGR issues, ICT, or HG," then you might have a leg to stand on.
