the whistle in the 03 compared to the 05

hey guys im very new to diesel trucks, im 23 years old and i just picked up an 05 f250 super duty diesel. i love thins thing. i bought it to tow my race car and tow my traliers for my landscape company that i just recently started. as i do my research i realize the 03 turbo diesle 6.0 whistles a lot more then the 05 when and exhaust is put on. why is that and what do i have to do to make my truck whistle like an 03 6.0...thanks guys

the 03 turbo has 10 vanes on on it and the 05 has 15 i belive im not exactly sure on the vanes but i know the newer ones has more vanes creating less whistle

so basically mine cant whistle like those....can i change the vanes

you can find a used 03 turbo and swap it out with your 05, its a pretty common swap.

No you cant just change the vanes you would be basicly having to change the whole center section. If your really looking for the whistle only just do what was stated above find yourself a 03 Turbo, also with a pedestal.

I just did this and LOVE the sound difference! If you have not heard it in person you havent heard it. Videos do not do the sound justice!! Also if you cant find an 03 pedestal at a decent price or at all the 05 ped will work.

are the 03 turbos just as good as the 05 turbos or will my truck be less reliable

No they are just as good. some people say they even add a little more hp but thats up in the air. basically its going to be the same + the whistle.

The only thing I can think of thats different besides the exhaust blades is the newer turbos have grooves in them to help the oil drain better I think to help cool it better.

The 05 pedestal will work, but it puts more stress on the up pipe because only 2 bolts will be holding the turbo to the pedestal instead of 3.
