Help with Turbo Exhaust Clamp
I purchased a FBD 4" Turbo-back exhaust with the free flow muffler. When I was installing it, I left the turbo down-pipe on and gutted the cat. I wanted to install all of the system, but I thought I would have to break the clamp on the down-pipe to remove it. Is there a special way to remove this clamp? I can tell a difference in the exhaust system already, but I would like to get the bigger down-pipe on.

Spray the heck out of the clamp with some pb blaster or some other penetrant for a couple of days. You might have to use a pry bar just be careful not to break it.

Use a pry bar, like vitalidle said, or a big screwdriver.
When the T-bolt has been loosened, take the screwdriver and pry the far side away, then I used a rebar pigtailer (kinda looks like a giant dental pick) to pull the near side. It took a little trying but it suddenly just poped off. Getting it back on is a PIA, in case you were wondering! Last edited by Big Tone; 04-07-2007 at 04:07 PM. |

downpipe
When I installed my turbo back I loosened the bolt and just used a flat blade screwdriver and gently pryed for a few min. It came off pretty easy

What about the 'ears' that you have to bend over. It looks like there are 3 of them and can only access one of them Looks like you have take the turbocharger off to get to the other 2.

get it warm (not hot)....so its barely touchable....loosen the clamp and get the T bar out of there.....spray it with PB blaster for about 5 seconds. Sometiemes the actually pop themselves off just from the penitrating oil. If it doesnt pop by itself, simply get a flat blade screwdriver against the face of one of the three clamps (prefereably right in the center gap that the t-bar covers) and tap it with a hammer...it will pop right off...all three of them will even though your only hitting one of the three v bands on the clamp
