In the market for a powerstroke

I am coming off of a 98 Gmc sierra and am looking to upgrade. I have been looking at a few trucks and have liked a few 03 and 04 f250 4door 4x4 short beds. Are there any known issues I should be aware of when looking a truck over? Yesterday I test drove an 04 f250 that drove great but the ac did not work and it had this warning light on. Any idea what it means? (I attached a picture of the dash. The light is the arrow on the right hand side) the 04 is otherwise well taken care of. There are no dents or scratches and interior is flawless. They are asking 14,900 for the 04. This truck has 92k miles on it

I also found an 03 f250 4 door 4x4 shortbed. This one has the fx4 offroad package and has an emblem that says 100 year centenial edition. I want to see this truck this weekend they are asking 12,500. This truck has 124k miles.

Also I've seen several 99-02 f250's already lifted that i liked. Is the 6.0 motor that much better then the older 7.3? or would i be happy with either truck?

The truck will not be a daily driver. I will just use it for road trips, getting my dirt bikes out to the desert, towing my 91 jeep cherokee to go rock crawling (that i plan on acquiring next), and easy trails here and there.
