Interested in getting a used straight pipe exhaust, downpipe back. It is a 3.5 to 5in exhaust. I am wondering how hard it will be to install the downpipe without a lift, I can put it up on jackstands but no lift.
Its not very difficult at all. I think most of the guys here installed their exhaust without the use of a lift. I installed mine in the driveway without lifting the truck at all. Total time was about three hours. Most of that was getting the downpipe positioned properly. I hear its much easier with a helper.
^^Plus 1^^ with what DriversDiesel said. You may not even want it on jack stands depending on how high she sits. Laying on a creeper and the truck being "too high" (on tall jack stands) sucks worse than having the truck on the ground. You will be fine.
If you are thinking about the 3.5-5" straight pipe you might be able to save a little money by doing a CAT delete "test" pipe and muffler delete pipe. I know it won't be a 5" but it's what I'm going to install on mine as soon as my buddy gets his welder back up and running. If I remember it was about $50 for each piece.
You don't need a lift at all. I did mine and it was a piece of cake. I even installed a 4" down pipe and that was easy as cake too. I went 4" all the way and put 4" pipe on my cat converter. Knocked out the cat converter so its just a empty can but it seems to limit the drone from the exhaust plus it looks good if someone wants to see if its still there.
Just take your time and do it right. Its a very easy job.
