oil filter has small piece of plastic inside it

Hi everyone I'm changing my oil for first time on this truck , and when I took the filter cap off, then pulled the filter off the stem that it fits over there was a small piece of plastic sitting there . It is domed and seems to rest on a domed piece of plastic that is over a shaft or something . When I tried to slip the new filter into place I see that the loose piece want to slide to one side or the other. Can some one shine a light on this for me. Thanks Raffter

you can get a new plastic piece like that from ford they arnt to expensive at all and also we had a truck come through that overheated and blew the engine so we sent it to ford and found that piece to be melted a lil bit and a piece missing due to that they didn't cover his truck under warranty they voided it just off that so easiest thing to do is replace it
