Thinking about switching to 5w-40

I am thinking about doing an oil change and switching from 15w-40 to 5w-40 for winter but my only reserve is that I live in Illinois and we have been having a random warm up(mid 50s-70). Will it hurt anything if 5w-40 is in the truck and it warms up outside?
