2. Park the vehicle on a level surace, then turn off the engine and open the hood.

3. Allow at least 20 minutes after engine shut down to assure that the oil contained in the upper parts fo the engine has returned to the oil pan.

4. Protecting yourself from engine heat, pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert fully.

5. read oil level on both sides of dipstick and use hightest level (reading) for the actual engine oil level.

6. Maintain the oil level between ADD and OPERATING RANGE on the dipstick by adding oil as required. The distance from ADD to OPERATING RANGE on the dipstick represents 1.9L (2 quarts). Do not overfill. If the oil level exceeds OPERATING RANGE, oil consumption may result."

With being said "reinsert fully" I would insert the dipstick untill it stops in the tube. Thats what I've done since I've owned mine as well as every other car/truck. Hope that helps Top. Maybe sometime if you don't mind I would like to take a look at your bypass system.
I really need to get an owners manual. Come on over anytime, got about 2K on my oil and it still looks like I just put it in. I'm really happy with the bypass kit, and for $289 shipped, you can't beat it...

I tell them I check my oil in the driveway at my house in the morning after it's sat all night. The oil level is fine. You'd think because they work at an oil change place they would know that.....
that maybe why my oil level was like 2qts over when i bought it.

I bought a o2 expy a few years back and the owner told me although there was 80km on the truck the motor had less than 5 k When I asked him why he said because he had just had the truck serviced at ford and was on his way home when the truck died. So he called a tow truck and waited. when the truck arrived the operator ask if he had just come from ford. He asked ...how do you know that??? Because I just followed a stream of oil all the way here. They forgot to replace the filter and all the oil leaked out.
So thye replaced his engine free of charge.

Another vote for seating the cap all the way on the tube and then checking.

Getting ready to do an oil change tomorrow, as a matter of fact. Valvoline Premium Blue for the first time. I've run Rotella, Rotella synthetic, and AmSoil....kinda curious to see if the Blue makes any difference. Oh, and somehow I talked NAPA into giving it to me for $17.99/gallon instead of $24.99/gallon!

Always bottom the dipstick out.

The reason they say to let it sit 20 minutes before you check it when it was just ran is the fact it takes about that long for the oil to return to the pan from the top half of the engine and turbo. Diesel oil is that much thicker and flows slower
