New Truck?

Hey guys, pretty new to the site, i recently found a 2004 6.0 liter i'm thinking of buying and i figured i would ask you guys if it was a good idea? I have a 99 7.3 and i like it pretty good, but i have heard that the 6.0 liters have had alot of problems, like haed gaskets and a few small things. What i need to know is if i wanted to put a tune on the truck do you think i should put head studds if first just to be on the safe side? The truck only has 40,000 miles so its in prety good shape, i know they run good but are they decently reliable like the 7.3's have proven to be? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Some of the 6.0s definately had issues and they usually showed up before 40k miles so pull an oasis report on this truck and look at the dealer repair history on it.
My 6.0 has 65k miles on it without any issues.

the one i have has 110000 on it. i had a report pulled after i bought it, it had some issues, but nothing major

My 2005 had only 45000 and in shop now for new heads (not just gaskets) and has had the EGR cooler replaced.
It is a crap shoot at best with the 6.0

My 04 has had a turbo, egr and headgaskets done, but Ford covered it all, no questions asked. Other than that, this has been the best truck I have ever owned!

the major issues were with the 03-04 6.0s. most of the issues were resolved by 05. as others have said run an oasis report and have a local diesel tech shop take a look at it to make sure everything is running ok.

So should i take my chances or steer away from it? I will get a report, would a car fax be the same thing i have never heard of a oasis report? By the way thanks for all the Info!

I did a lot of research before buying my 6.0 (mostly on this site as a lurker ) It seems that the 05+ motors are bullet-proof, but the earlier ones had issues.

I think trouble would have shown up in three years and 40k miles. Get that report.

An Oasis report is Ford-specific on what has been done at the dealership. Since your motor is still under warranty, anything that has been done would be in the Oasis report.

Snipe - its your truck, your money. i think you should get the oasis report and have a diesel tech check it and make sure everything is copacetic. personally, i would just steer away from them and either look for an '03 w/ a 7.3 or try and find an '05 w/ 6.0. i wish you the best of luck, and keep us informed.

get the oasis on the truck my nephew has an 04 its had 2 sets of heads, 3 sets of gaskets, new transfer case, and is going back now to get turbo replaced for the third time.
