kidding aside the OEM deck has bad Audio IMO
just a head unit swap can make the daily commute more pleasant throw in some pillar tweeters and a small powered sub and your sounding good on the cheap
I may do that. A friend has the Boss flipout DVD with back up cam that sounds great and works good.(1 year so far no issues ) that is 95$ at Walmart. I may go that route.

I'm not a fan of the flip-outs, just too many moving parts if you drive much on rough roads. I went with JVC touch screen and added a cheap back-up camera. Think I have ~$200 in it with the installation kit and wiring harness. Installed it myself because they are pretty easy. i'm not an audiophile and wasn't looking for the latest and greatest, so YMMV.
Is there a adapter kit or something that allows you to 1. connect the double din stereo to the original harness and 2. actually install the unit in the dash flawlessly?
Sure. Looks like I'm at $283 all in with me doing the labor. I wasn't going for the latest and greatest, or looking for all the bells and whistles. My primary objective was to have a decent backup camera and some better audio. The lowest cost quoted at a stereo shop was ~$700; I wasn't going to spend that for what I wanted.
