I have found a new water pump with a metal impeller not plastic for almost half the price of the Alliant AP63503. It is the ACDELCO 252-885 Professional Water Pump. Good quality pump that won't cost a arm & a leg.
This pump is described as a premium aftermarket replacement pump. The fact that it comes with the metal impeller a plus. I would guess it would last about same as factory pump. It's up to you on what you buy and I am just giving info on another option available that I found. The impeller looks more like factory design than Alliant does.
if i wanted metal and didn't want to pay for a BPD quality, rebuild able unit ( to late already did lol)
i would drop 120.00 on a lifetime warranty from Dieselsite unless i could find a similar unit from our sponsors
When I had my engine work done I opted to replace my Waterpump because the truck was pulled apart at the time. Only one option in my book on something as vital as the Waterpump. BPD and it has to be black so it matches the paint on our engines. What paint they managed to spray on it. Cheap bastards.
I put a BPD water pump on mine while I had the engine apart. I am very glad that I did because when I pulled off the original pump, I found a crack on the center of the impeller (where it slides onto the shaft).
Now I know I won't have to worry about it again!!!

I received my ACDELCO pump Saturday. I have a 06 so it was the 252-885 model. It DOES have a metal impeller. Like I said, this is just info on another available option choice.
I took a chance on one ($62 on Amazon) after some searching and finding an AC Delco product description which mentioned it having a metal impeller.
I believe it's machined aluminum since it's not magnetic and the milling cutter marks are obvious on the impeller vanes and hub. The impeller has a black coating - seems thicker than anodizing - and "rings" when hit with a metal tool.
The fins may be machined, but the overall impeller is cast, not billet. That's not saying that it won't hold up. I'd think it would still be better than plastic.
Looks identical to the Motorcraft pump, the new impeller appears to be some kind of ceramic composite material?, might be a cast aluminum? Definitely not plastic anymore
