My dad and I both have '03 6.0L trucks and both have been relatively trouble free.

If you can get an 03 for a decent price and mod free, but had all the bugs worked out at a dealer then yea I'd say its worth it...if I could find a 06-07 for a price I could afford i would get one of them though, just for the newer truck and possible still warrantied!

If it was red dye diesel it shouldn't have done anything... Really there is no worst year. The only thing you gotta watch out for are some of the early 03 6.0's got a bad batch of injectors but those should have been replaced by now.

My 03 6.0 was less troublesome than my 06. However, I think the PO of my 06 (a SD rancher) really worked the truck hard and neglected it. I've been working to correct the damage he inflicted since buying this truck.

The newer interior and 17" wheels of the 06 are prettier, and the steering of the 06 is better. If only I could get it to hold fuel pressure hauling my boat down the interstate 80mph into a 20mph head wind.... My 03 did this no problem.

Also, the 03s have a less troublesome EGR cooler.

When I bought my 03 last november it only had 34,000 miles on it. That means it was only driven an average of 6'800 miles a year. Not enough! These trucks need to be driven and driven hard! Mine is on turbo #5. Two of which I've had to put on it. Other than that, it's an awsome truck. But now that the truck gets driven every day, the turbo stays clean and rust free. Also I would suggest using full synthetic oil and change it regularly due to the restrictive oil drain tube on the 03 turbo and the touchy fuel injectors. Every year has its own set of problems. It really comes down to proper maintanance and luck. I would'nt be afraid of the 03, just do your homework. Good luck!

no major problems with my 05, i did have to replace the HPOP, i would think for the price a 05-06 shouldnt be too high in price, i got my 05 lariat 2 years ago for less than 25k with 80k on the odometer, i just went over 125k a couple weeks ago. still pulling strong and without ever installing tunes it runs great.

Sweet

This is all good news. A 2003 came up for sale two days ago at a dealer right near my house. It has just over 100K and they're asking $16K. It's a lariat, 4x4, one owner truck and boy is it mint! I'm just cautious about the tow rating??? Any help would be great. Thanks

Tow ratings for 2003 don't make sense!
