ordered all the parts and press for the ball joints but somehow i didn,t thought of the knuckle seal tool.
I,m in spain right now and couldn,t find a hardware store to make me a knuckle seal tool,...so now what?
I came up with a piece of wood and drilled a few holes with the diameter of the axle, now guess what?...it works perfect.
so i thought i post it and maybe help somebody who,s in the same situation.
see the video
that is a unitized seal ( it spins within itself) very easy to unknowingly damage and shorten the lifespan or compromise the vacuum sealing capabilities
don't dismiss the special tool as replacable with a wood block just yet
it also seats the seal in the knuckle squarely and to depth also
But will have to admit, I was surprised with the music playing in the background. Wasn't expecting "Never Can Say Goodbye" in Spain. Disco still lives! :woot:
I like to see creative solutions to problems. I like to call that creative engineering, after watching the gold shows when they took to American Large machines to the jungles of South America and Africa. Really loved to see what they had to do to keep those machines running.
Only reason I ever started fixing cars myself is I brought my American car to Korea and when I had bad brakes, the garage told me to bring them the parts and they'd fix it. I didn't even know what was wrong with it. A Korean guy in broken English taught me to how to fix the brakes.
I would someday like to go on long through a few countries, and a breakdown would be inevitable. It's nice to remember tricks like this to get you through. Even going to Alaska, you're hundreds of miles away from a decent 6.0 mechanic at points.
I saw a similar video with a guy using a roll of duct tape and a hammer. He said it works just fine, but he also said he was replacing that after installing it by pounding on the roll of duct tape 10,000 miles ago.
Luckily for me i can visit the Amazon
When i need a tool lol
