I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about the fuel requirements of larger injectors. I'm not imidetly planning on getting larger injectors, or even imidetly doing a custom fuel system. However I would like to have both of these accomplished within 6 months.
The more I looked into the Airdog or FASS pumps the less I liked them. with the rate of failure and the high cost (just talking about the pump and dual filters). To me, doing a 100% custom fuel system is the smart and most future proof method. Sure with all the fancy connections and lines I'll be spending more then a drop in lift pump but the fancy lines and connections are what make it awesome :grin:
I've spent a few hours and put together what's I think is a full list of evehthing I need to do this. As well I created a graphical chart to help explain it a little better.
What do you guys think of this? Will it work? Do you have any clue what a system like this can handle? Or is it just stupid to do all this.
I am planning on a beans sump, it should be item number 1 on my diagram. Normally when I'm saying "custom fuel system" I'm mainly referring to the pump and filter set up (not using a Airdog or fass).
And I'm pretty set on 190/75. But may go larger in the future. Of course this would also be with a supporting turbo.
One interesting thing I had read on a different thread was a guy reversed the flow of the fuel system. As in the fuel enters at the back of the heads, and exited at the front. I think his reasoning was because that was an up hill travel, so any air bubbles should quickly be pushed passed the injectors. And also it illuminated the fuel lines that normally are sitting on top of the engine for the regulator.
My system is set up feed the back of the heads. It is very similar to what you have there, except for the external pretty filter and Fuel lab pump. The pump you have should support 190/75s just fine.
are they any clear advantages (besides neatness) or disadvantages to feeding at the back of the head? what filter and pump are you running along with what size injectors?
well heck may as well get LED coolant hoses aswell :wink:
I didn't even know there was such thing as illuminated fuel lines.. or any illuminated lines for that matter
For the fuel line coming to the back of the engine, did you use any heat shield? I'm either considering wrapping my exhaust pipes, or adding a heat protectant sleeve over the fuel lines themselves
Yup, there is nothing stock in my fuel system anymore besides the tank and the fuel sender. 8 AN was used for everything to the "y" fitting in the back of the heads. 6 AN was used for the engine bay. There is an 8 AN line from the regulator back to a bulkhead fitting installed to the top of the tank.
Edit: forgot to add, I have a sump. If I was to do it all over, I would have bought the fuel sender from Riff Raff diesel.
What did you do to attach the fitting to the bulk head? Just drill a hole, tap the hole, and screw the 90 degree fitting into it? I'm considering using a cheep fuel pickup tube as a return straw into the tank to decrease foaming. The $350 price tag of the riffraff diesel high flow fuel pickup is making me lean toward the sump and a pickup tube for the return straw
Ahhhh that's exactly what I was looking for! I can go ahead and install that with a section of hose on the inside leading down to the bottom of the tank to decrease foam (but you said you've never had a issue so I may skip that).
