what do yall think

i have an 05 lariat 3/4 ton. i was wondering about an opptions that is on my truck it has dual alternators. it was listed under the optional equipment when it was bought new. i was wanting to know what it was for. i seen them come with oversize alternators. i just was wondering what it for.
the starter sounds different than anyone elses. it has a high wine to it. like a high speed starter or something like that. i was wondering if it was a opption on the 05's.
how do you find out what kind of rearend is under your truck. i know what gear it is i am wanting to found out if it is a dana 50 or 60 or if it is a ford 9. i am wanting to but a locker of some sort in it. it is peg legged as h**l.
it also has a 5 speed auto trans. i found that interesting.
any help on the subject would be helpful thanks.

That is the most common reason for the dual alternators. Or, someone else ordered it that way. That's what I did since I use it to charge my batteries for my race trailer.

As oilburner said its an option for vehicles with high ampres needs e.g. ambulances, ems units...............if you ever want to install major sound equipment, or anything else electrical your good to go.

It was an option for any truck, not specific to an ambulance or EMS vehicle. I ordered the dual alts on mine, I think it was like a 100.00 option.

I have dual alternators on my 06. It was a factory option. I'm not really sure why its equiped that way but I'm glad it is since I pull a RV that has two batteries on it. I also have the PTO option which I have no idea what that is for either.

Dual Alts are great when your truck charges other batteries like on an RV or work trailer. You should be able to look on the inside door and it will tell you if it is or isn't equipped with the ambulance package.
