First off, a little background. My truck has 220,000 miles on it. All stock besides a sct, intake and exhaust. I have a friend who would work on my truck with me for pretty cheap. He has a few shops, tools everything to work on diesels. He is a certified diesel tech. So my question is should I even worry about studding the truck and deleting the egr since I have so many miles on it? Or should I just save my money and find a used motor if this one craps out? If I were to fix the truck I would do everything. H-11's, new gaskets, fcdp delete, new oil cooler.... everything. I just dont want to do all of this and the engine take a dump shortly after.

i think you should just see what happens with this motor first. buy the parts you want to use to along the way. get ARPS not h11s.
if the motor pops you will have the parts and you can do the work while the "new" motor is waiting to go in |

Would it be worth doing all that work with so many miles?

i would. its a great way to learn all about the motor. plus if something else fails or whatever you have a better idea where it is or how to fix it

Yes, that is true. I am going to talk to him some more about it. We are in the process of a engine swap on my cousins jeep right now.
