how to tell your 03 had 10 vane turbo?

in the process of buying an 03 6.0l and i want to find one with a crazy turbo whistle. i know it has to have the 10 vane turbo but is there a way to tell by looking at the truck? or when you start it will it have a quite whistle? just need some help

Look at the build date of the truck, that should tell you all you need to know.

but if you are shopping for one, it is likely the CAT and muffler are still on the truck, so it won't sound anything near to the youtube ones and such. build date of truck is best way. unless can somehow see the part # on the turbo.

Get a oasis report. It could be a 03 and have 10, 12 or 15 vane turbo. If the truck had a turbo failure they would have replaced it with either a current year turbo or a rebuilt one.... It is never a bad idea to get the oasis before buying anyhow

The best and only TRUE way you will know if its has the 10 blade exhaust turbine is to look at the Garrett part number. Should be a white sticker on the back side of the compressor housing and also in the "center" section of the turbo.
