engine replacement?

Just curious, when ford replaces the whole engine, what year can you expect for the motor. ive heard all the early 6.0s had the issues, and a guy is selling a nice f550 that has 4k on the new engine around my area (ok its a trip but its a 550 and in great condition for a good price, including a plow). Its an 04, but being re-engined recently, would it have a newer model 6.0? makes sense right? open to anyones opinion, thanks guys your great.

ps, sorry for being on and off the forums and not replying to some pm's about buying a truck, basically had a section of wake up, work till sleep, and sleep for a while

it really depend on if it was a "complete" "long block"or "short block". If it was a complete it would be new everything from turbo to oil pan. Short block would be just a new block-pistons-rods-crank-etc. Long block would include heads but i don't think injectors and oil rails.

If he bought it out of pocket it may be a complete or long block but if it was done under warranty it was more that likely a short block.
