Truck broken into!!!

Well last night me, my girlfriend, and a couple buddies went to eat at a mexican restaurant. When I came out everything seemed fine. I went to find my gps to find the nearest grocery store and my gps was nowhere to be found. I just had this feeling. So I got out and looked at my lock and sure enough it had been screwed up, not bad but enough for me to notice. The only thing they got was my gps, they didnt even get the charger. I was very lucky that is all they got. My sct was in the dash. I know its just a gps but I'm not some rich punk who can just go out and buy another one, I'm a poor ole college kid. Now I have to get my door fixed too. It will be a long time before i can get another one. I wished I could have caught them doing it I wouldve absolutely ripped them to pieces. There is nothing worse than a freakin thief. Sorry I just had to vent.

Is there anything I can do to get my gps back?
What can I do to prevent this from happening again(alarms, etc.)?

Just put a rear door handle piece there so it has no key lock, if you called the cops and gave them your serial number of the gps and the theifs try to pawn it they will get caught. Just get that blank piece and a alarm, I had my truck broken into twice and it hasnt happened since I got that stuff done.

Sorry to hear your truck got broken into, that really sux. I cant stand people who don't have anything that feel they can take whatever they want from other hard working people.
Unfortunately, I don't think you could do much to get your GPS back, you could put up flyers and ask around campus, but that's about it. To keep it from happening again, one thing I've down when I go to the mall, or some place I know has lowlifes walking around, I'll take my Garmin and Valentine1 and put them under the seat or under a coat or something, so they aren't out in view. I feel that is the reason, most criminals pick a car, it has something of value on the dash, so just remove everything, and you won't have the problem.
Also you could get an alarm system that has a shock sensor, so the slightest movement will set the alarm off and alert you, so you can show up and teach the little SOB a lesson if he didn't have the brain power to split.

this sucks man, i hope you didnt leave your homes location on your GPS, and if you did, i hope it is passcode protected.. they can use it to find your homes location and steal from you there also when you arent home.. this is one of the new things going around for thieves. its been going on around the SLC area a little...

Sorry for the loss.Ditto on the door handles. I did mine the first week I had my truck. Also if your GPS is password or home location locked it basically worthless. Also we lost 1 of our GPS's that was packed in luggage while flying. And we notified Garmin that it was stolen, and they will be alerted it someone tries to reinitialize, or update the GPS by tracking the serial #. So we felt better for the poor soles that stole it. Sorry to hear about your break in! Here in the auto crime captial of the entire world it is a daily occurence for many residents..and they just let the criminals out with a pat on the hand and rub on the back and a welfare cheque in their pocket...meanwhile the vehicle owner has to pay the staggeringly high deductible rate every single time because our socialist government/state run auto insurance agency has the highest premiums on earth..not including our carbon tax, gas guzzler tax, luxury tax, envinronmental impact tax, provincial tax and GST..lol..welcome to socialism friends..that is just another nail in the coffin of freedom and democracy you have to look forward to the way the US is going..oh..and crime rates will soar even higher.
