can you explain this for me?
my 03 went into the shop, it was running rough. they tell me it had a seroius soot build up and the egr valve was not functioning. they said that they have an egr service package that flushes the soot out and then they ad something to the new oil and to the fuel. this costs 600.00 any opinions on this?

Ive heard of something like that. Dont know about the prices. Maybe one of the 6.0 guys that have had this done will chime in.

For 600 bucks you can get an egr delete kit and get rid of the problem. Thats what I would do.

x2 on the delete kit price. It sounds like too much money for just a cleaning and an addition to the oil, JMO.

The beauty of the '03 6.0 is the EGR isnt read by the computer. Just unplug it. Cost - $0 and 30 seconds of time. Its located near the oil filter on top of the engine - if I remember correct - to the left. Its a little blue gasketed plug about an inch long. Just dont break the snap connector. For the record - I have a '03 6.0 and had simular issues 50K miles ago - I unplugged mine and it has ran great ever since.

Actually thats about right, I believe its called Induction cleaning. If any of you actually pulled your intake manifold off and actually looked inside you would be disgusted by it. That process will actually clean all that crap out thats built up inside, valves etc, the reasoning why your EGR valve gets clogged,

I would try the unplug option first and see if it helps.

i would just do the delete kit route and save yourself some possible future problems.

Dont waste your money. You can clean the EGR with a paper town and brake cleaner.
OR...... delete the SOB |
