rotella 5-40 synthetic should i run it?

just want to know if it is a good oil. ive been trying to read up on some of the oil threads. i already bought the dino oil rotella 15-40 but it seems like there are some opinion whether is a good oil for the psd (foaming up) does the 5-40 rotella have the same foaming up problem? i can get the rotella 5-40 for about $20 a gallon which isn't to bad. i ran some number and if swapping out the dino oil for synthetic and can gain only 1mpg with fuel being $2.60 a gallon i would basically get the extra $40 back in fuel saving(right now i usually see 17mpg hand calculated) i currently running moble one devac 15-40 dino oil... is it reasonable to expect a gain in mileage with the synthetic oils ? just something to ponder about ... i really want to run the extreme blue but no place carries it. does any one know of any big retail chains that carry it? or is there any other oil i should look for before setling on the rotella? i tryed to get the mc 5-40 at ford but they would have to order it for $180 so thats out of the question at that price i would go for ams oil or another highend oil.

edit: i only want opition on oils that i can buy locally. the list is valvoline extreme blue 5-40, rotella 5-40, mobile one turbo diesel 5-40. im not sure if the napa has the extreme instock but if they dont which would you buy between rotella and mobile one? thanks again

Well in all my diesel trucks.....its either Valvoline Premium Blue 15w40 dino......or Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5W40

where do you find the extreme blue or do you order it? my local advance auto parts has the premium but not the extreme.

NAPA or Oreilly Auto Parts either has it in stock or can order it for you!

ok i will check napa tomarrow morning, there are no oreilly stores in my area . how much is a gallon of extreme blue usually cost? thanks again harleyf250guy

i also saw on autozone website that they carry mobile 1 turbo diesel oil which is a 5-40 oil too and it says the have it in stock at the local store for $6.99 a quart.

The last time I bought it, it was on sale for $21 a gallon. Normally it is around $24. In my opinion I would hold off until you could find some extreme. The Mobil 1 stuff is gonna cost you $28 per gallon by the you buy 4 quarts @ 6.99. That's pretty dang expensive......I would wait....but I am a Valvoline guy.......

good deal. is that $24 at napa hopefully its on sale. i thought the extreme was a bit more then that (+$30 a gallon) so its good to hear its price comparable to the rotella. i really need a oil change a little over 4000miles on the dino mobile one delvco . so im really need to get it done tomorrow have a 300mile trip planed for sunday. i guess if i cant find the extreme i will go with the rotella 5-40 which should be better then the oil im runing now...

I put synthetic in my truck for the first time and I used Rotella, Wal-mart has it here for 19 a gallon. I got the truck in March and have used dino Rotella till now. It helped with a cold start issue and with injector stiction issues when the truck is cold. I am pleased but no long term feedback yet.

het harleyf250guy - i just got of the phone with napa they had 1 gallon in stock but they are going to order be 3more gallons it will be here by tuesday. and its on sale at napa for $17.99 hopefully my truck can hold of a few more miles for the good stuff . i which i had more money to spend so i could buy a couple cases at that price...
