Enging Oil change to 10-30

I have a 2004 f-250 with a 6.0 diesel . I got my Ficm updated yesterday due to hard starting and ruff running when cold. The Diesel shop where I got the work done recomended changing my motor oil from 15-40 to 10-30 and add a defoamer. Has anyone else heard of this and or would you also recomend it?
The ficm program update works great and cured my hard starting and ruff idling.

Is there a way to tell if your truck has had the update?

as an amsoil dealer i would not recamend it, unless it is winter time and cold where you live. the engine was designed to run on 15w-40, run it unless it gets cold. i would also recomend that you put prolong engine oil additive in your oil, it made a huge difference in mine and how it idles and it works wonders for the injectors. i personaly run 15w40 amsoil syn in the summer and 5w30 amsoil syn in the winter, but i live in ohio. i also run a bypass and only change oil 2 time a year with oil analysis.

Might be something to consider up in BC. What are the temps like, and do you tow a lot with the rig.

Also, what are temps likely to get down to before its due for another oil change?
