Moore fuel concerns

Hey guys new to the forum. I have a 04 King Ranch 4x4 crew cab. It currently has 36,000 miles on it. I have a small trailer and boat that I tow sometimes, but not very often. I have had very bad MPG's since new and its not getting any better. Lots of times to the dealership, but I don't think they know what they are doing either. I bought a superchips tuner about a year ago and it gave it lots of power, but none of the settings helped the MPG. The last trip to the dealership was a check for the egr and computer recall issue and they reprogrammed and the superchip won't work.Sent it back to be reworked and now it doesn't do anything to help. I am being told that the 6.0 is going to be this way. I don't really understand, I don't really drive it fast, start fast or pull anything. But 13.5 is about all I can get. Any suggestions on aftermarket help. If this is the way things are going to be, I think a trade is in order. I'm sick of this!!

Big Lew,

Don't know what to tell you other than 13.5 mpg stinks. I am currently traveling in New England and have been driving the hell out of the "Big Hoss;" 85 mph through the cities and I have been averaging 15mg? I have a crew cab 4x4 dually. 4.10 gears, stock ... Have you tried the exhaust, and after market air intake? A tuner will increase your performance, but not decrease back pressure or air intake.

Fuel/MPG

Frankie, thanks for the reply. I'm really a gas gearhead, know very little about the 6.0 PSD. I do know that the guys from Ford don't know anything. It is really a puzzle why it will do good for a while (17 on the way to the coast) and then when I picked up the boat 7 to 8 and then dropped it off and drove back and got the 12.7 that I am getting now. Don't really have a clue where to go from here. Ford is going to keep it for a few days and see if they can figure it out. The strange thing now is that it has less power than before. I trying to figure out if I am going to keep it or set it on fire!! What would you suggest to hlp as far as aftermarket is concerned? I have over 36k on it so the warranty is not an issue.

Big Lew,

I know just enough of mechanics/engines to get me into trouble. Sounds concerning as to why your mileage continues to fluctuate. Have they looked into the Fuel Filters? Power differences and poor fuel mileage are symptoms of fuel-filter problems? I would also check into where you fill up and try different gas stations. Just a thought. As far as upgrades go, the standards are exhaust, new air intake and a chip. Chipping has yielded problems (see 6.0 performance forum). I would stick with an exhaust and air intake to start.

Frankie

try adding a name brand cetane additive in it at every fill up for the next four or five tanks and see how that affects it. the 6.0 is very picky about fuel quality and also make sure you are replacing your fuel filters every 15k religiously...........Marc
