I recently posted about my no start issue. It's came back as the HPOP. I'm going to go ahead and do some repairs/updates while the cabs off. Any and all suggestions/insight is appreciated. Below is what I am looking at so far. I need to get everything ordered ASAP so that I can get my truck back on the road.
You might consider going with an OEM oil cooler an not the one from sinister. There are some threads here where people have talked about the quality of their coolers and that they run hotter than OEM.
Ok. I will take a look at that. Thanks for the heads up. The only reason I was looking into the sinister one was because it came in their kit. Can anyone give me another source to be able to get all of the needed parts? Maybe even some part numbers? It would really help out.
The sinister kit included the oil cooler, EGR delete, oil cooler screen and gasket, turbo bolt and o-ring, intake gaskets. Again if someone can help me track these down on the individual side I would gladly go OEM on the cooler.
Thanks for the great advice Rattlesnake18!. After reading more into it, I will be purchasing everything I need separately. Looking at getting every thing through Tousley/White Bear. Any help with OEM part numbers would be appreciated.
Sorry to keep bugging. I've searched everything from parts list, to 6.0l build, to 6.0l parts list. I can't seem to find the right thread. Any chance you can steer me in the right direction? I'm ready to start ordering parts as soon as I have the list.
You had to offer!!! Here's another one. I never got to flush the cooling system before she gave up on me. Is there any way to do it without the motor running and get good results? I plan on starting the year down tomorrow night and get ready for the parts. It would be nice knowing I'm not going to clog back up in 2 weeks.
You will not be able to do a proper flush without the truck running.
In my opinion, I would go ahead with the fix of the HPO system. I would install the original oil cooler during the install process then do a proper coolant flush. After that I would go back in and replace the oil cooler with a new one. I know it sucks to be so deep into something and then have to go back in a little, but I personally wouldn't want the tam the chance of clogging a new oil cooler and then having to buy another new one and having no choice but to go in again.
Or... If you can swing the extra cash and investment... Look into the BPD VK688 oil cooler relocation kit. It removes the OEM oil cooler from the valley of the motor and relocates it to where it is very easy to replace/back flush.
Also, Fumoto block drain valves are extremely handy when flushing the coolant system.
^^ That's good advice. All of it. I know the thought of having to go back in after just having it apart seems like a waste, but if you put a new cooler in and then flush, you'll very likely be going back in again anyway. AND buying another cooler on top of it.
Rattlesnake18, I have decided to take the plunge. I am going to go ahead and purchse a BPD Oil cooler kit. SKU BPD-EOC-FACTORY-OIL-FILTER. Question, is there a reason that you went with the relocation kit vs. the kit that I am looking at? What is missing here? Would I be looking at any additional cost in the future for one vs. the other? Also, I have reached out to White Bear Ford after seeing you post about it in a different thread. I am told that if I just call and tell them what I am doing they will set me up with everything I need. I know what I plan on doing but am not sure whether or not there are any little things that I am missing. I am in no way a mechanically inclined individual. This is going to be a crap shoot. Any suggestions?
I like the relocation kit because I don't need the cold weather package that I would need with the air to oil cooler since I live in CO and get some pretty cold temps in the winter. The fact that the cooler is mounted on the passenger side of the engine bay makes it easy to get to so I can back flush it or replace it if need be.
As for the EGR delete, I do not have any experience with one, but from what I have read and been told by friends who have them, they are all pretty much the same no matter which one you go with. A couple guys I know have bought the inexpensive ones from eBay and haven't had any problems with them. Others may chime in with a different opinion though.
Did I mention Fumoto block drain valves, definitely get them for your coolant flush.
So I'm balls deep into it and I've screwed up. I dropped a tourqes bit into the valley where the gears are. I've used a magnet and camera and can't find it. I've hand turned the gears 3 revolutions and am sure it's not in a bind anywhere. What are the fallouts of not finding this? I searched up too and the pan. Nada. Am I screwed?
Yup. Everything's out. HPOP, oil cooler, intake. I took it all out. Waiting on parts. Went with the full bulletproof kit. Air to oil. Egr delete. All the updates. Coolant filter. All in all, I'm right at 5.2k into it. I've done everything man. I can't find that tourqes. Suggestions?
So I've tried using a shop vac. Just tapped off the hole in the hose and rigged a clear 1/2" hose to it. I got some oil removed but no torx. I'm lost. If I don't find this bit am I looking at a major malfunction or can I assume it went down into the pan and I just can't find it. We're talking a good few hours searching.
