What was wrong with the 03/04 PSD'S?

I talk to alot of people about my new F250, and it always comes up that the 2003 and early 2004 6.0's had some serious problems (at least some engines did. I know there are alot still going strong), but what were those problems?

When I tell them they worked those problems out (most of them, maybe?), I always get asked what did they work out? I am ignorant when it comes to the answer, so I would like to be more educated on the subject. If there was a past post that I can look at, please let me know. I don't want to waste your time on something that has already been rehashed.

I only know of 3 problems, Injectors, and a wireing problem ontop of the motor, and the turbo going bad.

No time wasted if there is a question to answer! Some of the early engines did have problems and there were some recall issues.

Problems range from turbos, injectors and hpop, head gaskets, and EGR.

these problems tend to arise early in the truck's life, so if you have one with a few miles on it you probably have a good one. My dad has one with 75K on it and no problems. I'm sure there are some 6.0 owners that can go into more detail, though.

I have heard about the turbos going bad quickly (seizing up or something) and the headgaskets, which I believed they beefed up 05 and newer I think.

and some of the 03/04 issues go right thru to the 05 to 07 also..they can still blow headgaskets..still have faulty EGR coolers and oil coolers as well as turbo problems..its not just the 03/04..

BUT all of the stuff is fixable..
