NOW...i know you all are thinking.. WOW this rig has been around the block a few times with 216k on the dash, YES i agree. but my plan for this purchase is to replace a few things to give it back its " younger " days if you know what i mean. so here is a list of what i will be doing to this truck, please give your opinion on if this is a good/bad thing to do, and if possible please give your expertise on anything that may seem out of whack. such as suggestions are VERY welcome.
If this truck is purchasd my plan for it is to..
-Replace the injectors
-New Glow Plugs
-Royal Purple Full synthetic oil
-Replacing old rings and gaskets
-New fuel Filter
-Edge PLATINUM with attitude monitor
-Cold air intake
-Stacks
Is this enough maintinence to get this beast running like new again ? if not. please put your imput in. i would high appreciate it.
Doesn't sound to bad, I like 6.0 trucks that have milleage over the ones that don't. Just my personal opinion but I feel that the trucks have the milleage because they have always worked over the trucks that are rarely driven because they are unreliable. Of course you never know but that's how I think it goes. :dunno:
Doesn't sound to bad. If the truck is clean and straight, get an oasis report done on it and see what has been done to the truck while it was under warranty. Also, looking at your plans, ditch the plan for the Edge and get an SCT w/custom tunes.
THE TRUCK ITSELF
*2004 F350 6.0L 4X4 PowerStroke Turbo Diesel AUTO crew cab short bed
*216,000 Miles ( 95% highway ) I like to see this kind of mileage out of the supposed "unnreliable" 6.0
*6 Inch Lift + 20 Inch Motto Metal wheels. on 35'' Tall Toyo Mickey Tompsons Ditch the lit, but that's me
*After market Cold air intake ( not sure what kind ) If it's K+N, I would at least want to look at the turbo impeller, then if not trashed, replace with stock uit, or AFE, S&B
*After market exaust ( not sure what kind ) 4" TB is what you're going to want, but you could add the DP if he just id the CB system

If this truck is purchasd my plan for it is to..
-Replace the injectors Lots of $$$ if there isn't anything wrong with them
-New Glow Plugs Again, why do it if nothing is wrong
-Royal Purple Full synthetic oil I'm no expert, but I've heard that Amsoil is the way to go
-Replacing old rings and gaskets
-New fuel Filter s
-Edge PLATINUM with attitude monitor No on the Edge, YES on a custom tuned :sct:
-Cold air intake I thought it already had one
-Stacks I liek the stacks :thumb:

^^^^^^ i know, im trying to trade it out, i hate gas vehicles, waste of money imo....thanks for your input it was helpful. and the only reason why i say change out the injectors and glow plugs is because shes been 216k so u never know what kind of shape their in ya know ?....if i buy i gotta drive to san antonio to get her so i think the 5 hour drive back will give me all the info i need about he truck as far as anything wrong, durability, and gas milege lol
Sounds good, post some pics of that beast when you get back :thumb:. FYI, injectors are going to cost you about 2k :dunno:. On the GP's, I'd wait till you have a problem, no point in fixing what's not broke IMO
seems like an awesome deal. Just my opinion but I'd rather buy a stock truck and put aftermarket goodies on it myself than buy one from someone who already did the work to it, for two reasons. One, it's just more fun to do the work yourself, and two, you never know how the previous owner drove it. Having all that work done makes me automatically think the guy had it tuned, but you don't know with what tuner, what power level, how hard they were on it. Having 216K on the ticker is a good sign though, but I'd definitely get a full OASIS report, and test drive it if you can before you buy. I'm sure one of our SA members would test it out for you and let you know how it runs.
Or you can just ask the dealer to provide you one if you are buying it from a dealership. An OASIS is all of the times that your truck has been seen for warranty work.
yea with that kind of mileage you will almost for sure find that it has already had whole engine replacement,my dads has 80,000 on it and 2nd motor.6 leakers dont go that long or not without lots of replacement parts.SORRY JUST THE TRUTH.get a 7.3
Yep I can think of plenty of members on here that have gone a lot longer than 80K and have had zero problems. My Mom's went 120K plus before she sold it and the only issue she had was an EGR valve. Is that enough fact or do I need to have every 6.0 driver post there mileage for you.
yea you better start posting because i will not believe shiz til i see it and a oasis to prove that it is not had turbos, egr, injectors, cam issues should i keep going.
Turbos aren't bad as much as you think, at least not here anyway. Injectors yes, in the early ones, and some later ones. EGR was a terrible design, I admit that. I have no idea what you're talking about with cam issues :dunno:.
Think of it this way, Ford sells MORE trucks than Dodge and Chevy COMBINED, therefore you're going to hear some more issues with Ford, just for that reason
Bottom line, 7.3 owners usually have to buy a tranny $3500, to fix a 6.0 you're going to spend the same, but the tranny is stout as all hell. Pick your poison :dunno:
ive heard good and bad things about 6.0's. my friends got a 6.0 thats been thru 2 sets of head gaskets and the second time he blew them they warped the block. soo he bout a new motor from jasper, threw it in and 2 weeks later, POOF, another set of head gaskets.. but the jasper motor is warrantied. but if its already got over 200k chances are its one of the good ones, if he hasnt done any major repairs lately. deffinitly get an oasis and carfax report if you can.. but sounds like a decent truck.
i agree if it went that far then it might be a good one.I am just saying what i have seen first hand,i had a company truck that was a 6.0 and when it ran it was a great motor but it never ran it was always in the shop.JUST MY OPINION BUY WHATEVER YOU WANT.
im looking at a couple 7.3's at the moment. iv done some reasearch and the 7.3's come out on top. so my interest might have taken a turn for the better. im deviding between 10 trucks right now lol...( im not kidding there really is ten )
lol i was wondering the same thing. the 6.0 imo is good for about...well...put it like this imo i think 4/10 6.0's are the better ones....but still..im looking for a 7.3 right now

There are MORE 6.0's on the road than Duramax's and Cummins', therefore the breakdowns are going to be higher, plain and simple. There are a couple engineering ups, but it's generally a great powerplant
141k on my late 03 built 04. Bone stock as far as i am aware, first owner may or may not have had a tuner on it and i know he atleast had wheels and tires (rub marks in the wheel wells) Buddy of mine ran an oasis for me and there was nothing ever replaced under the hood. Bumper and seat were and a couple squeeks and such but no injectors or sensors or gaskets. There are good ones out there and more mileage i think is better than less..... got mine with 116k on her
^^^^^^^^ Alright lol no problem. thank you. im probably going to try and call him again in about 2 hours. if i do i will tell him i have a friend comin to look at it for me. whats ur name by the way lol ?, mines kevin if u didn already know
