6.0 Oil Leak

I just purchased an '06 F350. Definately love it over my old 460. Won't be going back to a gasser anytime soon. I have enjoyed reading the posts on this website so far so I thought I would ask for some advise.
I have 500 miles on the truck and I have noticed a slight oil leak around the bell housing. It looks like it is comming from a black access plate on the bell housing. It takes 3-4 days before it drips on the garage floor. The dealer tells me it is excessive grease from when the torque converter was installed at the factory. Said to keep driving it and it will take care of itself on its own. Anybody out there had this problem?
Thanks!

I had the same problem with my 06 250 with under 2000 miles on it. With mine it was the rear main leaking. I told ford thats what it was but of course they didn't believe me until they put a dye in the oil. They fixed it and havn't seen a leak since.

if its hitting the ground, its not excessive grease.......its probably blowing some oil out of the CAC tube where it leaves the turbo and then flowing throught the bellhousing. it could also be a cam or crank sensor o ring. that dealer is full of *%&( and they know it.......90% of rear mains replaced on 6.0's were not leaking, so now there is a TSB that tells the tech that there was grease installed on the converter and not to mistake that for the leak point, and your dealer is using it as a cover not to work on it. with a leak that small they should clean the surface very well and dye it......look right here.......but there will be a blue clamped tube on the turbo outlet.......

if there is oil inside the reccesed portion of either of those torx bolts (the part the torx bit actually goes into) that are just below the turbo outlet....then the cac is blowing some oil.....tighten the clamp a little.....dont overtighten or it will stripp.....clean her up good......and see if that helps. sometimes it takes a couple weeks for all the oil to leave the bellhousing, so dont be alarmed as long as it doesnt get worse. some "seepage" is normal from the cac tubes but it should never puddle enough to be actual fluid.....it should just be residue........Marc

Thanks for the great info and the pic. I just got it back from the dealer yesterday. They did put the die in and determined it was the rear main seal and they replaced it. Well see how it goes. Looks like it took care of dam910's problem but I'll hang onto the pic for future reference. Thanks again!

watch it close....cause like i said before....most rear mains are replaced and were not the cause, althought a 7.3 rear main was NEVER the problem and i have seen a few 6.0 rear mains actually leaking......just watch it close and make sure there isnt any other leaks....and if you have any suspicions....check it out yourself with a good flashlight and see the highest point with any oil before it goes in...that way you know if they are doing it right.....Marc

Got a buddy with a 05 6.0 that is on the rack right now. Dealer is replacing the rear main as it is leaking. He loves his truck but they have had his trans out three times before they got it right. Now after all of that oil starts showing up on the floor of his shop where he keep his truck. (You can eat off this floor) He's not to happy right now with all the inconveniences but he loves his truck.
