Can economy get worse with Cat removal?

Gutted my cat and feel that my fuel economy has gotten worse instead of better. Is this possible? Running a SCT and the only mod it the Cat removal.

Chances are probably not...most likely culprit is your right foot and the shot in the arm of fun that the SCT added.

I have found that I get the best mileage from my street tune, the tow and the economy tunes are probably a tie for second, then the more extreme tune is worst...mainly because it is just so hard not to lay into it.

Then too, swapping over to a straight pipe didn't help either, it sounds so good it's fun to let it talk now and again.

Totally Agree
The lead in the right foot has lowered my economy from time to time, just because I love the whistle from the Turbo with the Cat and Muff gone; but when I actually drive responsibly (which is hard) I do see about 20 on the highway.

I'm getting 16.5 with my 97 stock PCM (for now) and 4.10 gears at 60 MPH if I push it more it goes to about 12, thinking about 3.55 or 3.73 gear change but the 4.10 work great for big heavy towing if your not in a hurry.

you are really cheating yourself when "gutting" your cat, unless your in a state that does require you have them. get the 4' turbo back exhaust with no muff or kitty and your truck will come alive!

How much of a differance does the 4" make, over just deleting the cat, and muffler on the stock 3.5"
