How Often..

Hey fellow 6.0 guys...

I am just looking for some information on what you do as far as air filter maintenance.

When do you change your air filters? Do you replace them at every oil change a certain mileage interval, when they weigh a certain amount?

If you have a aftermarket air filter the same question goes to you. Do you clean them at every oil change a certain mileage interval, when they weigh a certain amount?

Looks for information just for myself.

Also if you are running an aftermarket air filter, what made you get it, ease of cleaning, not having to replace it, cost, etc, etc..

Thanks guys & girls.

I have an AFE drop in filter. It is the kind that you put inside the stock filter after you cut the guts out. I clean it every oil change. It is one of those non oiled filters so its easy to clean. You can blow it out and then clean it with hot soapy water. It is supposed to clean it to 100% flow again. For $60 bucks it was worth it .

Using the stock Donaldson filter, and I won't change it until the filter minder starts to move.

I use the stock filter. I changed it at 25k just to see if I could tell any difference with fuel economy. Needless to say, I saw no change.

I will change it again at the 75k mile mark (every 50k miles) OR if the filter minder would ever start to show signs of the filter "loading up". Folks have said it is good for 75k to 100k of typical service and from my experience, I believe it.

AFE stage 2 PG7. Only reason I bought it was because it was a cheap deal. Brand new in box for $200 at the time. I clean it every other oil change (6-8k miles).
