Where are fuel ratings at the pump? Cetane #'s, 1D, 2D etc...

Where are you guys getting info on the diesel you're pumping? I'm talking about more than B5, B20 etc.
I recently called AAFES on post (JBLM) to ensure I could fill up there. Took the guy 10 mins on the phone to just figure out it was B5. I even tried asking for the MSDS and he had no info on the fuel they offer at the pump.
After filling up there I started blowing black smoke on acceleration which I never did before. My truck is in great shape mechanically so my thought is bad, lower rated fuel.
There are tons of posts on additives etc but without knowing the fuel numbers I can't be sure if I should add 3 points/7 points? Maybe the diesel was bad just from lack of use at the station?

Seems like we should be able to know exactly what we are paying for, and what is coming out of the nozzle.

Yes, I agree. I have read unfortunately that there is no federal mandate requiring them to post the cetane rating or bio blend or anything even whether or not it is winter blend. This I believe is totally discrimination as the gas pumps are required to show their octane rating.

It seems like there should be some sort of "right to know" policy.

Update: New tank. Filled up at my usual Shell and no smoke or hesitation. Confident it was the gas. Lost almost 3 mpg on the tank as well. Feel like I got robbed at the pump.

Don't you mean fuel rather than gas? These diesels don't like gas!
Yes, I feel the same way. I filled up at the BP station my brother uses and Holy sh*t! Bad fuel, getting less mpg's, the engine is louder and I can feel a small vibration. Tomorrow my Opti-lube XPD comes and I can't wait so as to fix this problem.

Schrod, yes FUEL! Frustrating to drop over $100 on something that makes my truck run like garbage (even with fuel treatment) Good luck with the Opti-lube!

Perhaps I'll start telling all these guys who want to blow smoke to just get crappy fuel lol
