$4.29 in Appleton, WI

The removal of sulphur is not the major contributing factor in the price difference, demand is. 42 gallons of crude oil produces 19 gallons of gasoline and 7 gallons of Diesel (plus other stuff). This is a pretty solid ratio that is very difficult (read: expensive) to move, and can't be moved very far. Right now the supply of gasoline is actually very very high with a diminishing demand (read: more Civics then Cadillacs), where Diesel supply is very very low with an increasing demand. SO!!! The distillers are reluctant to produce more Diesel because it also produces more gasoline which is already selling with virtually no profit margin because of the great supply. (Notice I say distillers NOT OIL COMPANIES).

So, Diesel being more expensive then gasoline is here to stay for quite some time, but with the slow down in the world economy the difference may shrink a little. And the slowing world economy is a double edged sword.

I've also seen many many alternative ways to create Diesel getting traction, ie. algae bio-diesel, waste bio-diesel etc. They all seem to focus on creating Diesel NOT Gasoline, which is good for us, unfortunately years off.

Big Island, Hawaii $5.35 down 5 cents from last week. I bought my truck in November last year and diesel was $3.76, would love to see that again.
