general, i think you may have misread the article. to the best of my knowledge you can not run 100% cng in our engines because the diesel fuel also acts as a lubricant for the pumps and other moving parts, meaning without the diesel the engine would not be properly lubricated and break. as for the compressors, i have been told that if you have natural gas in your home then you can get a compressor for a decent price, but again i'm not 100% on that. i just looked on the internet for cng fill stations in my area.
the price of these kits that ya'll are looking at should come with a tank for the vehicle. i have seen kits minus tanks for as low as $650 on ebay and craigs list. if you are really interested in this then just look around and you can find them for a decent price.

Performance Diesel Inc.

2700 for a tank, are there any other options out there? i recall the city trucks had basic steel (?) tanks that have GOT be more affordable...

CNG stations and Prices for the US, Canada and Europe

throw in your zip code and VIOLA, your nearest station and their current price.

for some of us in Commie-fornia the price of CNG rivals that of even diesel right now.

GasBuddy.com - Find Low Gas Prices in the USA and Canada

anyone know the historic trend of CNG???

Sounds like a good way to go if you can get everything for a couple grand or so. Worth it so not paying for diesel all the time and you can get a home kit that refills it over night too. You can get a tax cut ect...

It used to be way cheaper than driving a gas truck, less than half price. Even when gasoline was dirt cheap here in the 90's, my dad's old truck cost him like $18 to fill and he would get about 4/5 as far as a full tank of gas, plus the option of switching over to regular.

These systems are kind of complicated and they're not the bargain they used to be. The price of CNG at auto stations has gone up and stayed up, instead of falling in symmetry to every other fuel. If you get it from your house though, that's another story. There's where you might see some real savings.
