Problem is they (oil producers) figured out they can produce less product, and make more money. They have no incentive for building new refineries, or uping production #'s. It's a total racket. Fixed market. If bill gates were in charge of the Oil, the gov would have broken him up by now. I'm personally eying a 2009 Jetta TDI stick shift. Combined 38mpg 42mpg hwy. (I'm sure the EPA is trying to kill it) I've looked into econo cars (gas) and it's a joke. My brother has a 2007 Honda Fit 5spd. I've looked at Yarises too. They are the size of a soda can, have no power and only get 27mpg city/35hwy.... yeah... um, no thanks. those numbers Suck for the size of the car. Let's face it. Gas engines are topped out in efficiency for the most part. We're beating a dead horse with Gas engines. that's like trying to improve the Steam engine... change venues. Most of the world has been running Mirco Turbo Diesels and they rock. Espeicially the nice ones from western Europe. and they are in the 40-50mpg range. (can we say Hybrids suck?) Hybrids are also a scam. you spend an extra ... $10,000 to get a "hybrid" version of the same car. BUT you only save 2mpg. So you have to drive the car 80k miles to break even. Hybrids are a total joke and only condusive for very urbanized metro commuters in rush hour; that's it. And to add insult to unjury, the American car/truck market SUCKS. there are no real good options for diesels. (hhmm wonder why..) the EPA (Equity Protection Agency, not of my equity though!) does everything they can to ban diesels from being in the US. Another Scam racket. They don't want diesels here b/c then Americans would REALLY be saving on fuel consumption. And then you'd start seeing Hybrid Turbo Diesels... (now we're talking). 60mpg+ for you rush hour folks. Also, Diesels burn a variety of fuel orgins. so you might open up a privatized sector of Bio Diesel fuel companies that would really hurt the Petrol companies. And lets not forget Ethanol sucks too. another Conagra Big money company gov push. Let's spend 3gal to make 2. and we'll use up our farm land. SO then cereal, bread go up also.... so we get screwed there too. no savings to be found with Ethanol. If anything... it'll end up costing us (consumer) more overall in the end. If you want real savings and answers, look at what the mainstream is not pushing. Leave the corn for Red'n Bocker, and leave Gas for lawn mowers and go-karts. Small, TD's are the only real answer we have. Last edited by JBakerFX4 : 02-21-2008 at 10:17 AM. |

I love this idea...Im lookin into to it!! Girlfriends mom, grandma, and me could use it. Roommate and I just rough estimated the savings and it came out to approximatley 1,150-1800 doallars for a 500gal. fuel tank and refilled the tank every 3 months. Did I mention I love this idea I love it.

How much are we talking as far as "buying in bulk"? Heck, I would be interested to buy in bulk just for myself if it wastn't too much at once. I drive 80 miles per day, so I can go through it pretty quick. If not, I think I know someone I could get into a deal like this that would use as much as or more diesel than myself. I would like to know more information on this one for sure. -Aaron |

diesel just went up 16cents tonight here (NH), up to 3.69. i buy from an ex's father who runs a family heating oil company...has a metered pump with customer keys for select people, and get billed one month at a time, at whatever the closing price is at the end of the month. dont save a whole hell of a lot that way, but its convenient whenever im out there and dont have to think of the constant ups and downs as much every time i fill up. his fuel also gives me almost 2mpg more per tank. theres at least one other larger heating oil company here locally that also offers a billing program too, not sure if others around the country do it but that might be another option. |

the more you buy the cheaper it is usally before i got free diesel we would get to and buy as much as we could as much as 2000 gallons which comes out to like 195 a gallon but i dont do it anymore so im not sure how the "project" has changed we will just have to see how things will work out in your area.
