I just bought my 2000 Excursion (w/ a 7.3 of course) and drove it home from VA to NC where I'm stationed. I drove back at about 65 MPH keeping the RPM's right at 1750. It was then that I realized what I had stumbled on, accidentally, while buying this beautiful truck. I was keeping tabs on the information computer up top and was reading my fuel mileage...get ready...37.4 MPG!! (All hwy of course) I was SHOCKED to say the least. I was expecting, and woulda been happy with, 22-24. Some people say the computer is messed up, but it's not. I have a 42 gallon tank, too. I can go forever in this beast. I get low 20's in the city and on base...LOTS of stop in go. I don't know what the previous owner did to it, other than the K&N in the STOCK box...and I ain't messin' with a thing!
It's currently got stock 265's (E load) under it with no external crap to catch wind. I'm planning on "upgrading" with 285's, Dick Cepek FC II All Terrains, and a 2.5 susp lift (could only find it by Tuff Country for $385) just to clear the tires 100% and a little tougher stance. Small light bar up front and 4 KCs on that pretty much round out the external stuff for now. I don't want to kill that wonderful MPG.
Anybody else out there get that kinda mileage? I'm just wondering if mines just a freak or if others have done this too.
