What Else Can You Do?: 5.4L

Well, I got a friend with an '02 F-250 XL that's convinced it won't take too many mods to beat me. After talking myself blue in the face, I still can't convince him that a 7.3 or 6.0 with the right mods will walk all over his gasser. He has a K&N CAI, a straight-pipe exhaust with a FlowMaster Super44 & he actually wanted to buy my old Banks TransCommand in his high hopes that it would make him spin tire(Epic Fail). So now he took it upon himself to see if I could magically find out what else he can do to get some more HP. I suggested starting on getting some trans parts(i.e.- TC, valvebody, shift kit) & look into a Superchips programmer for the 5.4 or maybe a supercharger.....well, the supercharger is out of the question for him($$$$$$$). So besides a SC or programmer, what else can he do? Please someone tell me something as this kid's making me tear my hair out!

I have a 07' XL that i keep in teaxs for work, and man sometimes i wonder if it will ever get out of its own way!!!! It has Airaid intake, magnaflow exhaust, and a diablo predator programmer! It seems these 5.4's have a huge dead spot where it just falls on its face no matter how far that go pedal is on the floor!
Supercharger, trans, re-gear.......... then he might be able to keep up lol.

i went thru this with my bros truck... there really isnt anything that you can do to it to make it faster. we switched injectors and did the whole nine yards and only got like 50 HP out of it... the best bang for the buck is to go with the procharger and get it custom tuned (the tunes that come with the procharger SUCK)

OOOF...I appreciate the info, guys, but if it's comin' to buying a supercharger................he's screwed!

And you have a "good" 5.4

the earlier 5.4's were 2valves, pretty much nothing helps them, they are tough as nails, but thats it

the later 05-up 5.4s are better but still not that great, i think they were rated at 300 hp factory, but there just is no aftermarket for them unless you wanna get crazy but som sorta supercharger is the only way to go...

I was going to say that you could take a supercharger kit from a cobra but that kit seems like it could work too. 50hp+, that's it? Seems like very little on that big of a motor.
