My wife's Explorer

Well, made the final payment on the wife's Explorer 2 weeks ago. Yeah, tommorow I get to go to the salvage yard and pick up a steering column because the ignition linkage broke this morning and the cheapest and easiest way to fix it is to replace the whole column and have a locksmith come over and do his thing to make the original keys work.
Ford wants $88 to look at it to determine that I am correct in what I tell them to do to it. (They call this the diagnostic fee.) Then $88 per hour to disassemble and rebuild the column at "at least 4 1/2 to 5 hours.
I already told the wife that her next vehicle is going to be a Hyundai Santa Fe or Tucson. Thank you UAW.

We (yes I am a uaw member and work at Louisville Assembly building Explorers) can only assemble the parts that are shipped to us. Steering columns arrive prebuilt ( I don't know wher from) but we only add steering wheel and air bag on column. Your anger should be redirected but I do wish you had better luck with it.
