2003 F250 5.4 tapping/knocking noise

Have an 03 super duty with the triton 5.4. Seems to run and drive fine but has a pretty loud tapping noise, the more throttle I give it the more pronounced it gets. Pretty embarrassing around town. Changing the oil did nothing. 150k miles. I dont know if this is common or what but not the first 5.4 super duty i have seen that taps like this.

Top end maybe? If it's more of a knock then it's bottom end.

Steven. No powerstrokes in family (yet)

Not a knock, just a constant tapping noise. I've seen plenty of 2 valve 5.4 super duties make this noise.

Check your exhaust manifolds.. 5.4s and 6.8s had this problem.. I just got a 08 with 6.8 and they are just starting to leak.. Slight ticking sound when cold but goes away.. However, it will get worse with time if not fixed.. Luckly I got the ext. warranty..

Not saying this is your problem, but something to check.

It was the exhaust manifolds. Replaced them and now I have a nice quiet plow truck.

i wish mine was a simple fix like exhaust manifolds. heck, that would be reason to switch to stainless headers and quality gaskets. my 5.4 "ticking" is the turd cam phasers that i am waiting for a fix that doesnt involve buying lockouts ad a tune to reprogram the computer $$$!
