Maybe bought trouble
I purchased a 98 Explorer sport with 100K miles. In real good shape with the exception of rough idle when it is in gear and no power. The ford shop in Columbia Mo. said the timing chain slipped a tooth. I knew this when I bought it. I thought it was the ohv but it turns out it is the sohc. (Pull the engine to replace the back chain). It idles great in park. Starts instantly. Sound like bad timing? I ask becasue the Ford shop spent 20 minutes on the diag. Codes p0133 and P0155. Would it idle perfectly with a jumped tooth? What is the chance only the front chain jumped? Anyone deal with one of these? Helpful hints if I need to tear into it?
