For all you F150 fellas

My buddy has a 04 150 and he is having some issues with his coolant temp gauge. He will be driving it when the gauges beep and say check gauges. He looks and the coolant is pegged out on high then returns to normal. doesn't leave any check engine lights or anything.

Seeing if any one had an answer to this issue. I was thinking either sensor or sender.
