2011 E150 van, cig lighter question...

my work van is a e150 5.4. i have 2 power points on the dash in it. I have a sirius radio that you can pause and it will store up to 1.75 hours of that station that youre on's programming. so say i get out on a call, and want to hear the game. I pause the radio and i can pick right back up whwere i paused it(baring i was not there more than an hour and 45 mins) and listen all the way back up to real time. or, i can go back and listen to the songs that station played while i was out of the vehicle. kinda like a dvr for radio sorta.

anyhow, it works as long as you dont lose power to the radio. when I shut the vehicle down, all is good, radio stays on no probs. when i crank the vehicle back up, it cuts power to the cig. lighter for just a split second....long enough to reset my gps, sirius radio ect...and they have to start up fresh just like i just plugged them in.

I ran a fused hot lead from the battery and inside the cab, and then a ground and plugged sirius in there...still does the same exact thing...it loses power for a split second and then right back on again. Why does this do this?????

any other vehicle that Ive ever had that has a constant hot cigarrette lighter port never did this. does anyones newer models trucks cars do this? how can I stop it?

My 08 cigarette lighter stays hot all the time. I don't know if the other power point does, but I've never noticed my phone flash at me when I'm charging it.

No it stays hot when key is iff or if the truck us running, but when I crank it it looses power for just a split second enough to reset the sirius radio and the gps. I can also hear my phone beep and let me know its off charge. Then beep again tripling me its back charging.

This is with the factory cig lighter, or the straight from the battery hot wire I ran. Its really weird.

i think your voltage is dropping low enough that the device meets it's low threshold and turns off

there is no reason a straight wire from the positive would go off at all IMHO

and this may be an early warning about the condition of the batteries

might try an individual load test for them

No, I ran a wire direct from the battery inside the cab area. And hooked it directly up to a external 3 port cig lighter plug thing.

Maybe try a higher cranking amp battery? As said above, maybe when it's pulling the juice to crank the van, it hits the limit for the device to shut itself down.
