300i6 acting weird

Hey guys, my 300i6 in my 84F150 has a really bad habit. Our driveway is on a hill. So when I park at the gate to open it, I have have to shut my truck off and leave it in gear (4spd) cause I have no parking brake. When I get back into start it, it will not start unless it is being jumped by another vehicle. I don't get it! It's only at my gate! Lol so frustrating to have to walk up a 350ft driveway to get another vehicle and person, go jump it and then drive up. Any ideas? Again,it's an 84 F150, 300i6, New Process 435 4 speed 2wd.
