460 HOT START PROBLEMS
Posting this thread for anyone that may be experiencing the problem i was having with my 460. My truck would start fine first thing in the morning or after switching it off and letting it sit for a while to cool off but if i switched it off at the gas station and filled up and tried to start it up IT WOULD NOT !!! the starter sounded like it was dragging or that the battery was weak but after letting it cool down for a while turn the key and it would fire right up... Soooo i bought a heat shiels wrap and wrapped the starter in hopes that it would cure the problem and guess what IT DID NOT... Tested the battery it was fine checked the alternator it was fine.. Bought a high torque mini starter and bolted it on and she fires up every time now ... So in short don't waste your money on starter wraps or header wraps if you have a heat soaked starter like i did at first bite the bullet and spend the cash on a good high torque starter ... Hope this helps someone

Do you have long tube headers on it? The only time I ever had problems with a hot starter was when I had long tubes. Chances are your original problem was either timing ( retarded to create more low end torque) or improperly functioning functioning crank case ventilation system. If your timing is backed up like I do mine then your starter upgrade is definitely the fix.

Yes have long tube headers.. I advanced the timing and retarded either way didn't make a difference until i put the new high torque starter on .
