We have 2 99 F-450's at work with the 6.8's and I HATE them, despise them, i would even say I loath them!!!! They sound like a UPS van and they are just as slow!!! To top it off they both have this wierd issue with "eroding" the aluminum right under the t-stat housing, which happens to be part of the head!!!! Other than the motor the 450's are the best trucks we have other than they don't manuver well but they fixed that when they went to coil sprung front end.

My first Ex. was a V-10, didn't really "hate" it...but, I would not buy one again. They simply do not have the power, I can only imagines what some poor chumps who have the 5.4 V-8 in the Ex.'s must thinking. Can't really speak on the longevity of the V-10, I didn't put too many miles on mine, although I do have a griend that has an 02' Ex with 122k or so on it, he has not had any problems.

WOW, this thread didn't get any attention for the longest time! haha. The reason I asked this was because the "upgraded 2005" v10 had 300+ hp and 460+ ft/lbs of torque. This would put it close to the stock 7.3's setup (more hp, less torque). One of the drivers for a station I dispatch was looking at a 2003 7.3 F450 or a 2005 V10 F450, both with low miles and about the same $. I told him straight up the 7.3 would be better, but they wanted the newer truck. |

bought new 99' supercab dually with V-10, good truck 152000 no problems, pullen sob. K&N filter, single flowmaster, diablo chip. got 15 mpg solo, 7-9 pullen depending how heavy, worst mpg skytrak 6036 on 30' deckover I got 3 miles to the gallon. in 02' traded for 00' cc 4x4 F-250 7.3 with 60k on it and never looked back.
