So my dad has an 03 F350 xl with a 5.4. It has 155,000 miles and hasnt had any issues. Not one thing has gone wrong with the truck minus 1 coil pack and A LOT of brakes and tires.
The only fluid that has been changed is oil :taze:
What kind of miles are you getting out of your 5.4?
I had a 2004 F150 with the 5.4 that I used(not abused). It ran all day everyday for it's life with me putting 100-275 miles a day towing 75% of the time. Spark plugs and brakes gave me the biggest challenges, 1 ecu, lots of tires, 1 transmission at 225k, got rid of it with 240k. It drove like it did when I got it at 17k. I would say I averaged 14mpgs over the entire time I had it. Truck weighed 6500#s, had 355 gears and 33" tires. A couple pounds lighter than the 350 I know.
I have an 02 f250 that has been beat up and abused it's whole life as a work truck. It has 206,000 on the clock only problem it blew a spark plug out and ford helicoiled it and it blew out again about 200 miles ago. It was a $150 fix.
just retired my 02 f250 with 298k on it, all highway, all original down to the factory starter and exhaust manifolds, trans flushed yearly, tune ups every 2, oil changes every 3k, still runs like a champ, hopefully my new to me 6.0 goes as long or longer
I had a 00 5.4 and that thing was bullet proof. It was the lowest cost vehicle as far as repairs I've ever owned. I don't remember what the milage was up to when I sold it though.
I have a 99 150 with 206000 on it. that thing is a tank and has been through it...mud over the rocker panels...tires, tires, and more tires but it still runs strong. I have had to do my share of work on it though...4 oxygen sensors, 12 coil packs, 2 alternators, 4 radiators, rebuilt the trans at 150000, heater core, 2 sets of cv axle boots, and that joker burns through brake pads like it's going out of style! all in all though it's been a great truck and runs strong!!! If I hadn't got the diesel bug it'd still be my daily driver....that being said, I LOVE my powerstroke!
I run a company truck with 260000 km or about 160000 miles. It still runs great, burns no oil. I changed the plugs every 75km and do 10000km oil changes with sroyal purple.
I drive a 99 f250 extended cab long bed for work. It's the 5.4 with a 5 speed manual. This truck has 175k HARD miles on it. Its had its share of problems, namely the spark plug blowing out of the head, but has been a good truck. It carries quite a bit of equipment and i tow a quad trailer with 3 4WD quads fairly regularly. The place I work for is very minimal with their maintenance (I know, it's sad!) and this truck has held up. I run this thing hard too! The manual is nice with the granny gear, especially off road in 4 low. Dont personally care for the 3/4 or 1 ton with a gasser but this truck has made me a believer. And actually we have a couple trucks in the fleet running the 5.4 that are still running good.
I have a 97 E350 Box van. 135k miles no issues. Runs great. Goes through the scales at 13k, always fully loaded. Sold a 98 chevy 5.7 to buy the ford. Man that chevy was a POS.
I had an 00 f150 5.4 with 122k when I sold it last year. The a/c quit once but other than that I never turned a wrench on it. I wish I could of kept it as a back up vehicle and run it forever
the engine from my 99 has had 0 done to it but exhast manifolds when it went into the next truck. pulled at 550000kms it would be well 650000 now and still going.
