(Mechanics!!!) Escort Kicking my Ace....

I hope someone can help me. I recently was given a 97 ford escort that does not run. I have done everything I can think of here. It sat with an empty fuel tank for 1 1/2 years so I put ~7 gallons of premium in it and she fired up after much cranking. It smoked some white smoke for about 5 minutes and then I took it down the road. I made it about 1/4 mile and she died dead. Would not fire back up for anything. The fuel pressure is sitting right at 40 psi, spark is good and it WILL fire if I spray carb cleaner in the intake while turning it over. All my fuzes are good also.

SO...... Where else should I look? Could there still be water in the tank screwing with me here?

(I also changed the fuel filter, Couldn't even blow air through it.)

Thanks.

Plugs were pulled and checked for spark, and Air filter is still good to go, even tried cranking it without the filter installed. Thanks for the quick reply though.

Anyone else?

Something that you could try - pull the catalytic converter off - it may be stopped up. Doesn't cost anything for this.

When you say ignition module are you talking about the what I call a coil? (where the plug wires go?) If so I replaced this with no avail.

As for the unbolting the Cat, the car only has 40 thousand miles on it and it ran great for about 6 minutes. Still a possibility?

That is a warning right there. The injectors are probably clogged or the filter could be clogged again. You may need to drop that gas tank and clean it out and blow out all the fuel lines.

I agree. If it fires when you put fuel (some sort of fuel) straight down the intake it is most likely a fuel problem.

You have a fule prob... If you have access to a ultrasonic cleaner this is good for the injectors. They have a micro screen in them and you willhave a hard time cleanning them without a ultra sonic cleaner.. Look at the entire fule system . CLEAN It from the injectors to the tank this should fix your problem Bill

fuel system clogged up may even have to replace injectors to get it to run, sounds like you pushed all the trash from the tank into the fuel system ,and clogged it up, being that you have good fuel pressure to the rail , thats why i say the injectors are clogged
