6.2 impressions
I drove a 250 Lariat 4x4 yesterday with the new 6.2 and here's my impression:
If you like gassers this is your engine; it pulls like the V-10, is stronger than a Hemi but has a much better trans than either the V-10 or the Hemi. Otherwise, the drawbacks are many. The diesel is actually quieter in operation and gets MUCH better unloaded fuel economy (barely broke 14 at any point during the 10 mile test loop; the 6.7 got up to 24 at the same speed); with more HP and torque the 6.7 feels much stonger and more responsive than the gasser, like comparing a small block with a big block. No surprise there. However, you save over $7,000 with the 6.2. If you commute, tow recreationally, or need a crew cab truck with an 8' bed, this is your beast.
My overall impression: if you like gas engines, get an F-150 with the 6.2, as it seems taxed in the heavier trucks, and will pull close to the same weight. Need more, splurge for the 6.7. Personally, I won't tow over 4 tons with a gas engine.
