Wannabe F250

My brother is looking to get a truck. He doesn't have a lot to spend. I keep telling him to get a nice OBS or a first gen 12V. He seems to be into 96 and up F150's. He found a 97 F250 with the 7bolt hubs and F150 styling with the 5.4 in it. 120 000 odd miles on it. I personally hate the styling of these trucks, less power, less MPG, less payload, less everything. Am I being too harsh? What should he look out for?

PIS 230/80's, Van Turbo with EBPV, BD Billet Wheel
Lots of money spent at RiffRaff
Dual SD fuel pumps, in tank mods, CNC Fab bowl retain kit. SDK Tunes. Isspro.
Still pretty slow, just less slow now.

wow, i had to look up the bolt pattern on them damn things. never realized they were 7 lug. how gay

teah those trucks are a glorified half-ton they are not tthat competive with any othetr 3/4ton. its a heavy half with messed up wheels. it was a failed experiment when Ford was changing bodystyles. kinds like the early 99's have a few oddities.

finding parts for this will be a pain and a hasttle with the idiots they hire at autozone. Thats why i love my ABC Auto in east texas. best damn partshouse with stores in 35 towns.

If he wants an half-ton body style get a half ton with a 5.4 and 3.55 gears.

I would personally look for a 97 PSD with a 5 speed.

97 and 98 f250 no super duty. 7 lug axle is, truck has a 7700 lbs gvw. i know later on the f150 with the 7700 package replaced the non-super duty 250.

i would stay away from that truck just because of the 7 lug, how many after market rims have you seen that are 7 lug?

keep looking for a 1st or 2nd gen 12v with a 5speed or a clean obs

Almost correct. You can get a 1997 in the old body style. It will be when a F150 looked the same as a F-Super Duty the old 97 F250's will have either a 351 or 300 strait gasser, or a 7.3 Powerstroke.

I kick my self all the time for not buyting one when i had the chance. It was a red 97 F250 XLT Ext cab 7.3 5spd 4x4 with ranchahand on back and grill gaurd on the front. It was my dream truck when i was 16.

Zytek, I AM TRYING!! I would get and OBS for myself if I could. Im busting his balls everyday. As for the rest of you, thanks for the negative feed back. That was exactly what I was looking for to show him. He is the middle brother, the one younger than him has a 12v first gen. I don't know why the middle brother doesnt want to be cool too. Do y'all have anything good or bad to say about a same generation F150 with a 4.6 or 5.4?
